Cabbage is a vegetable with round shape and soft light green in colour. The main reason behind its light colour unlike other vegetables is that cabbage is covered with leaves and is not exposed to direct sunlight.
Cabbage is rich in Vitamin C; it even contains more vitamin C than Oranges. Vitamin C in cabbage helps in the growth and development of the body. Apart from vitamin C, It also strengthens the immune system. Apart from vitamin C it also contains vitamin E which keeps eyes and hairs healthy. Because cabbage is also a rich source of fiber, it is also extremely useful for the people suffering from constipation or any other related diseases. Sulphur in our body helps to fight against the infections, if your wounds take a lot of time to heal then it means your body lacks sulphur. The best source of sulphur is also cabbage.

Cabbage is also rich in iodine, which is a very helpful element and strengthens the brain and the nervous system. A research also proved that light cooked raw cabbage helps to prevent cancer especially prostate, breast and lung to cancer than thoroughly cooked cabbage and therefore it is recommended to eat lightly cooked raw cabbage. Cabbage in raw or in cooked form is an excellent choice for anyone who want to lose weight as it contains low proportion of fats and carbohydrates in it. Though there are some health benefits of cabbage but there are some drawbacks of eating cabbage a well. The most important drawback of eating cabbage is that it doesn’t taste good, you will need to add something in it to give it a taste but this also kills its nutrition to some extent. Cabbage is a favourite vegetable of some people but it is not good enough to be added in a daily diet plan. It should be eaten less often.

Whenever you cook cabbage, don’t forget to add ginger in it as ginger will give it some taste and will also minimize its acidic affect. The frequent use of cabbage can cause constipation as well as it can dry the skin. It also causes flatulence and its excessive consumption can lead to thyroid problems. However people who face flatulence after eating cabbage should blanch the cabbage for five minutes, change the water and then cook it in fresh water. This will reduce the chances of causing flatulence. People who suffer from Goiter (more common in women) should consult their physician before eating the cabbage as it contains iodine which is harmful for people who have related health conditions
